Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Hanasay mobile application ("Hanasay", the "App", the "Service"), operated by Aperus Ltd (company no. 14340621) ("Aperus", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using Hanasay, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. The Service

Hanasay is a Japanese-language learning app. It offers Scenarios and Lessons built from short interactive exercises (multiple choice, matching, image selection, typed recall, and similar game types), a learning pathway that tracks your progress, a revision pool for items you've starred or missed, and a Talk practice mode. Some Scenarios and Lessons are free to use without an account; saving progress, star ratings, and revision history require a signed-in account. Some content is part of the paid Premium tier described below.

2. Accounts

You may sign up with an email address and password, or sign in with Apple or Google. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials and any device you're signed in on secure.
You must provide accurate information when creating an account, and keep it up to date.
One account is for your own personal use. Don't share your account or let someone else use it to access paid content.
You can browse a substantial part of Hanasay without an account. Creating one is only required to save progress and unlock premium content.

3. Subscriptions and payment

Hanasay offers a single paid tier, Hanasay Premium, billed monthly, which unlocks every Scenario and Lesson in the app. There are no advertisements in Hanasay, free or paid.

Billing. Subscriptions are sold and billed entirely through the Apple App Store (on iOS) or Google Play (on Android) — we never see or store your card details, and Apple or Google is the merchant of record for the transaction, not Aperus.
Auto-renewal. Your subscription automatically renews monthly at the price shown in the app at the time of purchase, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
Cancelling. Because Apple/Google handle billing, cancellation is managed through your device's own account settings (on iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android: the Google Play Store app → Payments & subscriptions), not inside Hanasay itself. Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription.
Refunds. Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google under their own refund policies, since they process the payment — we're not able to issue refunds directly.
Price changes. If we change the subscription price, we'll give notice in a manner consistent with the App Store's/Google Play's own requirements before it applies to you.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Attempt to access another learner's account or data;
Reverse engineer, decompile, or scrape the app or its content beyond what's needed for your own personal, non-commercial learning use;
Use automated tools to interact with the app in a way that degrades it for other users or our infrastructure;
Redistribute, resell, or publicly republish Hanasay's Scenarios, Lessons, or exercise content;
Use the app for any unlawful purpose.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms.

5. Content and intellectual property

All Scenarios, Lessons, exercises, and other learning content in Hanasay, along with the Hanasay name and branding, are owned by Aperus Ltd or its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use this content within the app for your own learning, for as long as you have access to it (free content indefinitely; Premium content for as long as your subscription is active). This licence doesn't give you any ownership over the content itself.

6. Ending your account

You can permanently delete your account at any time from Account → Delete account inside the app. This immediately and permanently removes your account and every record tied to it — your learning stats, revision pool, and replay history — it isn't a soft delete or a deactivation. Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active subscription — cancel it separately through your device's account settings (see Section 3) to stop future billing.

7. Disclaimers

Hanasay is provided "as is". We aim to keep it accurate and available, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will result in any particular learning outcome. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties beyond those that can't be excluded under applicable law.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Aperus Ltd's total liability to you arising out of or relating to your use of Hanasay is limited to the amount you paid us for Premium in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time — for example, if the app's features or subscription terms change. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continuing to use Hanasay after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living elsewhere, you may also have mandatory rights under the law of your own country of residence, and nothing here limits those rights.
